The 'Being Creative' Project

Hello to you, and Welcome to the Being Creative project!

What is it and who is it for?

The Being Creative Project is a challenge to encourage people to be creative!
It's a tool for people who feel creatively stuck, for people who don't think they can create, or have been told that they can't.  It's also for people who are actively creative who would enjoy taking part.

Thesaurus Descriptions:

'Being' ~ existence, life, living, individuality, journey, presence, essence, self, soul, spirit, substance...

'Creativity' ~ imagination, originality, talent, inspiration, vision, ability, dream...

So how does it work?

Choose a theme that inspires you from the Theme Pool below.  You can take it in any direction you wish and you can create anything you like using any medium (and I mean that in the broadest sense) ~ photography, painting, pastels, sketching, poetry, writing, baking, sewing, yarn, sculpture...and so on.

You can make your Being Creative project as big or as small as you like ~ it could be something that takes a week or a whole month to complete, or something that takes half an hour, or fifteen minutes!  You could also commit to a year long project; whatever works for you :)

You can also create as many projects/works as you like for the theme or just work on one.

How much does it cost to sign up?

It's completely free, no charge, nothing, natch.  Did I mention it was free? :)

Sharing your creativity

I love the idea of everyone sharing images of their work and there is a Flickr Group Pool for you to post up images of your creations.
I know for some that it may feel a little daunting to think of sharing work online, especially if you are someone who hasn't done anything creative for a long time and aren't feeling that confident (I truly know the feeling, and you can read more about my journey here).
However, I know from experience that participating with others within a group like this helps to create a feeling of community, it's highly motivating and encouragement from other participants is practically guaranteed.  Nobody is going to criticise you, or tell you your work is rubbish - that's the rules :)

There is a link to the Flickr Group in the right side bar.

You don't have to post pictures everyday, or even every week.  I know that would be a bit much for me, so don't worry if you don't either.  However, if you want to, then you are more than welcome to do so.

My intentions for Being Creative:

A fun, light hearted invitation to create, open to all.
To build a creative community of people of all ages and abilities from around the globe.
To provide monthly inspiration, guidance and creativity tips as well as shovel loads of encouragement and support should you need it.
To help those creatively stuck souls to become well and truly un-stuck.
An opportunity to make a commitment to regular creativity.

How do I get started?

Just have a browse in the Theme Pool and choose one that lights your creative fire.  I hope that the flexibility of the Theme Pool means you end up with a theme that you really enjoy working with rather than been stuck with one that doesn't really call you.   I want to make this as interesting and as inspiring a process for you as possible - why not mail me your own theme ideas to have added to the Pool?

Dip into the Theme Pool...

Water, Cave, Happiness, Flowers, Gift, Journey, Snow, Space, Tide, Estuary, Birds, Migration, Jewels, Envelop, Solstice, Christmas, Oasis, Village, Birthday, Music, Poster, Breakfast, Cupcake, Elements, Fragile, Animal, Mountain, Message, Boat, Tranquility, Shop, Spring, Coast, Desert,

What's next?

Use the sign up form below to make your commitment to the project.  Rest assured you're not signing your life away and doing this doesn't tie you up in anyway at all.  I've actually found that most people find it really powerful to set their intention to do something this way, as it makes their commitment and goals they want to achieve become real.  If you prefer not to sign up, that's absolutely fine too - whatever you feel most comfortable with.

Just enter the URL of your blog or flickr page where you are going to share your work, and add your name.
If you don't have a Blog no problem!  Just email me your name and I will add you to a separate list underneath.

Use the Being Creative Button on your Blog or Website

If you are taking part in Being Creative, you are welcome to use this button on your blog or website. Simply right click the image and when the small box appears choose Save Image As and save it to the appropriate file on your computer.

I hope you enjoy the themes, have fun with them!
